On the Water Report

Jen with one of many rainbows

Fished with Jen and Adam yesterday. Nymphing was good, fish ate everything we threw at em... scuds, sow bugs, baetis nymphs and even the worm. Got plenty of nice rainbows, a couple quality browns and even a Golden in the net

Half Day Special

Did an afternoon half day float and we probably landed 15 fish on the dry with shots at many more. Incredible hatch today even in the wind... in fact I think the wind helped as there were way too many bugs on the water.

I'm so sick for dry fly fishing right now and I don't have much on the books for the next couple weeks.  If a single dry fly guy wanted to do an afternoon float hunting heads, on the water at 1ish and off between 5 and 6ish, I'd give him a deal... $250... flies and hot soup included. Hit me up, now is the time.

First fish this afternoon right across from the ramp.  All day, please

And boat traffic has been relatively light. I attribute it to shitty weather. We've got more cold rain and snow in the forecast but it's good for blue wings. Dress warm.

Post flush

These fish have really put on some weight this week after the flush...they all have sagging bellies like they've been eating golf balls... Just gorged from eating leeches and worms. Flows are back down to around 590cfs.

Baetis started popping today around 1:30 and fish were on em hard by 3:00. They're not rising everywhere, but there are some real nice browns chowing on em if you know where to look.

Big browns eat baetis

Solid cutty on a dry
Also did a half day on the North Fork Shoshone on Tuesday, just walked in above Buffalo Bill and we probably landed 3 dozen or so fishing rubber legs and eggs. Nothing huge,  but all solid 16-20" chromed out rainbows. The river was a beautiful steelhead green... that lower section closes April 1 so get up there while it's hot.

On a lighter note...

Had an awesome dry fly sesh yesterday afternoon. Look for baetis to start hatching around 2:30 or 3 pm. Not a whole lot of fish eating them,  but enough consistent risers to keep ya busy until dark. Big baetis too, damn near a 16. Did well with a Trigger Point Dun and a Cottonwood Cripple as a trailer.

We are totally open for the next couple weeks, give us a call if ya wanna sling some bobbers in the morning and then hunt some heads in the afternoon. Got my eye on a couple nice browns sipping under olive trees...

Also don't forget about the flush on Monday. Be careful if you're out here wading around,  you might just find yourself in a pickle.

Fishing Report - Bighorn River - Thermopolis, Wyoming

Flows out of Boysen Reservoir are 590cfs. Kinda bony out there. Fishing overall has been good,  not as electric as it was 2 or 3 weeks ago, but still good. Nymphing with scuds, sow bugs, worms, midge pupa and even a few baetis nymphs. There have been a ton of midge on the surface and a few fish eating on top, but daily afternoon winds have been putting the kibosh on dry fly fishing. Got some nasty weather rolling in this week and that really should get those BWO'S hatching. Still seeing a couple dudes here and there targeting rainbows on redds, you know who you are and you're not cool.. give em a break.

Flush

Just got word that they're planning on flushing the Wind/Bighorn on March 21. March 22nd oughtta be a great day for fishing as a lot of leeches will get flushed down the river and those big browns gorge on em.

On the Water Report

Fished with David from Minnesota today.... didn't see a single boat and the weather was great.  Fishing was pretty good too, hooked at least 30 on the nymph and landed most of em.

Yesterday was definitely the busiest day this river has ever seen, about 40 boats on 8 miles of river and the catching definitely suffered because of it... went from a 40+ fish day with two guys on Thursday to maybe 25 or 30 fish day Friday with the same two guys. It will sure be nice to have our little river back after this weekend.  I scored tomorrow off but Alyssa will be out there working for John Schwalbe and Wyoming Adventures.

River is still around 600cfs. Hope to get some water back in the ditch soon.

Open dates all week. Give us a call.

Bighorn River Flows

Sounds like it's gonna be a pretty busy weekend out here. Also sounds like they're dropping the flows down to 600cfs for maintenance... hopefully they're fixing the usgs gauge station. I'm sure I'll see ya out there.
