Dry flies... what else?

The dry fly fishing here on the Bighorn continues to be excellent. People keep asking us what we're using... Dry flies...what else? Our BWO Trigger Point Dun and the Cottonwood Cripple have been our go to bugs and the big browns keep eatin em. Check out our custom flies page and you'll find these patterns. Look for noses in some of the riffles and in the flats under trees.

To be honest with you I'm not quite sure how the nymphing has been. Lots of people out there doing it but don't seem to be doing very well.  My advice would be a sow bug and a baetis nymph. we've been hitting the river around noon and dry fly fishing til dark. And it sounds like a few people have had limited success with steamers.
This bruiser ate a size 18 dry. Taped him at a little over 21" so we'll call it a "guides 22"
Flows are around 680cfs.

  1. Any thoughts on when or if they might bump up the flows in the next couple of weeks?

    Thanks for the great reports!

    1. Flows should remain steady until run off begins late May or early June.
